Wharf Rehabilitation
Mohlin & Company was recently retained by a manufacturing facility located on a large tidal river to perform a condition survey of an existing wharf warehouse used to store finished product prior to shipping. The facility was concerned that the wood pile supported warehouse was deteriorated to a point where the load capacity was compromised. Mohlin & Company performed a detailed survey of the timber pilings and the wood framing of the wharf during low and mid tides, when the underside was accessible by boat.
The survey found significant deterioration of the timber pilings, including rotten cross bracing, deteriorated splices and inadequate bearing of support framing over the pilings. Mohlin & Company then developed detailed drawings to repair the deteriorated structure as well as plans and details to repair or replace the deteriorated pilings.
When repairs are complete, the warehouse structure will again be capable of performing its original intent of safely storing finished products prior to shipping.
