COAL UNLOADER

Mohlin & Company recently assisted a New England Electrical Power Generation Station with the installation of a new Siwertell Coal Unloader. The new coal unloader replaced a similar, smaller unloader that had been in service for the past 25 years. The coal unloader allows for the delivery of coal to the site in bulk ships and barges. The unloader is located on the station’s existing dock in the river. The work involved all structural renovations required to fit the new unloader on the dock where an existing, outdated unloader had been taken out of service.

Work included design of access platforms around the dock, including modification to an existing access ramp from the shore, design of a maintenance tower to service the unloading arm, a condition survey of the existing coal conveyor with repair recommendations, design of two storm lock supports to secure the unloader during storms, modification to an existing coal hopper support, relocation of existing utility piping and support of new electrical cable tray, conduit and a junction box. After a successful installation, the unloader is now completed and ready for operation.
